The label must name the packer, labeller or manufacturer with complete business address (a post-office or code address is not enough); imported food must also give the name and complete business address of the importer in Pakistan and the country of origin, and in Punjab the label is approved by the PFA Technical Wing and the product holds a PFA product registration certificate.
Required label statements must be in Urdu or English script (other languages may be added); PFA's label approval checks product category, company name and address, ingredients, nutrition facts, manufacture and expiry dates, batch number, net weight, allergen warning and storage conditions.
PPFR-2018 bars therapeutic or prophylactic claims unless specifically permitted, 'pure' unless the food meets the standard, any wording implying medical recommendation, and 'gluten free' unless gluten is below 20 mg/kg; the label owner named on pack answers for them.
